okay um so let's get into it uh like I said hopefully we can get through all seven if not we can um maybe it'll be a two- Potter I don't know so anyways let's uh let let's take a look at what the deadly sins are um you know we may or may not be familiar with these but uh as we're going to find out these these negative characteristics these negative behaviors um you know are written against in scripture so that's where they're coming from ultimately is these types of behaviors are not condoned by God and he doesn't want us to do these things and we're going to find out why U you know and that's that's that's one of the things that I think uh is interesting you know God is concerned about our Eternal salvation and he's concerned about our spiritual welfare but if we are to uh be successful in this life now we we really have to put away the these types of behaviors because if we have these types of behaviors in our lives our lives now in our flesh is going to be very difficultrelationships with people in our lives are going to be very difficult and ultimately as we've already said a relationship with God is going to be strained and quite possibly non-existent so anyways this this was a common um you know people talked about these things uh people were concerned about these things early day Christians were concerned about you know the pressures of the Roman world upon them um you know how do how do we manage these things how can we navigate all of these uh Temptations how can I be a righteous individual and kind of this this world of chaos in the Roman world where a lot of these you know behaviors uh were winked at they were uh a lot of times ignored as well just like just like in today so anyways uh lust
gluttony greed
sloth wrath envy and pride and so as I said you know the these are ideas or behaviors that people were concerned about ancient Christian writers like tullian and aias uh both uh wrote about these types of behaviors obviously in scripture they're written about quite extensively both in the old and the New Testament so obviously God wants us um to be aware of these things God wants us not only to be aware of them but to put away these types of behaviors in our lives and so they're called deadly brothers and sisters really because of the destruction that they wrought in people's lives ultimately um you know if we have these you know these deadly sins within our lives uh there's very little chance that we are going to get into the kingdom of God and that's just not me saying it we know that that scripture says that as well in a few different places um so it's it's important you know our Salvation is on the line uh quality of life now is on the line as well brothers and sisters so uh they destroy things these types of behaviors they destroy ourselves we damage our own selves our spiritual spirituality our relationship with God we damage other people when we're constantly uh doing these types of behaviors and and a lot of times brothers and sisters a lot of these things are connected they're interconnected like just off you know just kind of thinking about you know lust and gluttony and sloth greed you know they they're all connected uh as we're going to see now originally in the early days there originally were eight sins eight deadly sins um and one of them was sadness which I thought was interesting
sadness was a deadly sin and we we'll revisit that in in a little bit but just kind of think about that sadness and we're not talking about obviously being being sad but you know as we're going to find out it is a persistent sadness and so what the writers did was you know as as these things were refined a little bit um in the fifth century sadness was actually merged with
Sloth and at first that may sound weird like why is sadness being merged with Sloth well we'll take a look at it I think it does make sense but it uh it may not make sense to you and that's that's cool so the way we'll do this um you know I'll go through probably like a couple of the Dead deadly sins opening up for comments um like I said I'm not uh you know super concerned about getting through all of these because you know I have I have no problem doing it again um if you guys want me to uh next week but anyways so um so the so aias just a little background vas was a monk in the second century of the third century and a lot of these monks back in the day and they still do this today they would go into solitary places like John the Baptist uh they would go in the aans as well in the in in the land of Israel they went out into the judan um desert and that's they focused on God so they isolated themselves to focus on God AV arrius a lot of these monks were illiterate they couldn't uh read or write but evagrius uh was a really good scholar and he wrote down uh you know eight deadly or capital sins or behaviors that he felt um were deadly to Eternal salvation so he stated first in one of his writings the first thought of all is that of Love of self after this the E so you know he kind of starts off and you know and this is a tenant obviously found in scripture where I was going to find out you know the focus on self uh that's where pride comes in you're always focusing on yourself you're not looking at other people uh you're always focusing on the things that are concerning to you you're not giving yourself to anybody else everything's me me me and so that's the first one and then afterward he says here are the eight right the eight patterns of evil evil thought gluttony lust greed sadness
despondency anger vain glory and pride and some of these as we've already mentioned have have been merged like vain glory and pride have you know kind of the same deal um and so you know the question is why were they written well they were written to help early Believers to examine themselves to examine their actions their behaviors why are these why am I doing these things you know in a in a in a good brother or sister in Christ that has a good relationship with God is going to do these things every single day we do them you know uh on Sunday with the bread and the wine let a man examine himself and so let him eat of that bread and drink of that cup and so uh we have an obligation to do these things brothers and sisters you know and this is where I think the idea of sloth is going to come in spiritual
sloth uh and there's a lot of you know questions we can ask ourselves as far as you know what I what is our relationship with God and you know are these things in our lives are these se you know seven deadly sins in our lives on a regular basis just this picture right here on the right hand side these are kind of these are some of the uh you know kind of the caves or the dwellings that the early monks would live in away from everybody um and there's still monasteries in the in Egypt today in the Sinai desert you can actually go I think it's called
Uh St Elizabeth's Monastery Maybe but anyways you can go there and they have a lot of different codexes and books and whatnot um so anyways all right let's get into it so first one that we're going to mention now according to early Christian writers um they're listed this way
as uh from you know and again this is kind of the thought process of some of the early Christian writers
from the least deadly to the most deadly all right and so um the first one that the first one that is talked about is lust and that's something that obviously the Bible is interested in about uh not being lustful towards things and so a very simple way to uh Define lust is uncontrolled sexual desire is the Bible concerned about that in people absolutely there are um there are commands against fornication against adultery both in the Old and New Testament there's commands against disordered sexual desire such as rape beastiality was is one as well mentioned in the old in the Old Testament and the law homosexual relations as well um lust also can be used in relation to objects particularly money or power the love of money is the root of all evil Christ told us uh some examples in scripture that kind of come to mind Tamar and amn right remember that awful story David and basheba Joseph and Piper's
wife uh a story a little a little darker is remember the Levites concubine that was um AB abused by uh some some of the tribe of Benjamin men of the tribe of Benjamin uh Sodom and
gomorah also also written down for us God is interested uh in that and he's interested in us remaining uh clean from these things and so on the right hand side I thought this picture was pretty good uh you have David kind of up on his rooftop looking down on the right hand side the basba who's uh kind of taking a bath so uh James has some has some thoughts on this that we're going to take a look at but that's lust you know so the qu you know we got we we have to look at our lives what are we lusting after are we lusting after things uh the world is constantly bombarding us uh with
consumerism wanting bigger and bigger better uh and you know we we can get lustful for things we can get lustful for other you know men women that type of thing um we can be uncontrolled our self-discipline is gone we don't even try
we just kind of allow things uh to happen so you know these these things you know talking about these things can be a little uncomfortable but you know the Bible God has put it in the Bible for a reason so he wants us to understand that these things are
destructive to not only our salvation but to our lives right now I think sometimes we forget about that brothers and sisters that God loves us and he cares for us and he wants us to be successful right now so he doesn't want these things in our lives he doesn't want us doing these things because it makes our life now
difficult just think about the destruction that some of these things can H can can cause you know allowed to go unchecked in our lives uh just really destructive and then you know Jo Joseph and parer's wife you know it was actually part ofer's wife that was aggressive so this isn't n just something that men deal with um although I think they probably deal with it more but anyways uh you know it's something that sisters both brothers and sisters need to be on guard for what are we lusting
after you know where where is our heart in relationship to the things of God and so here are some um you know biblical quotes obviously that talk about that uh Matthew 5 and the top is kind of but I say unto you that everyone uh let's see is you know um but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart and so Jesus is actually not even you know he's he's addressing the action but it's an action of thought you begin the process within your mind the lust starts in your mind and that's why first John is so important for all that is in the world world the desires of the flesh the desires of the eyes and the pride of life the King James version uses the lust of the flesh the lust of the eye and the pride of life is not from the father it's not from God brothers and sisters it is from the world it is from this order of things something that is going to be blown away like the chaff so there's an exitation in that for sure um Galatians but I say walk by the spirit and you will not GL gratify the desires of the flesh put to death from Colossians therefore what is Earthly in you sexual immorality impurity passion evil desire covetousness which is idolatry and then lastly be sober minded Peter tells us Be watchful your adversary the devil prows around like a roaring liing seeking someone to devour that is great imagery that Peter is using for us Pro in
around looking to devour us through
lust and there is there's a lot of lust in the world brothers and sisters and we need to keep ourselves from it uh you know we have to be on God we have to Be watchful sober minded Peter tells us we have to be in our right mind
spiritually in order to keep these things these things that we strive
for um in in this world away from us they're not going to do us any good being uh you know obsessed or lustful about you know about things in this life I'm sure it's
exhausting um and again I think we have to keep in mind that God wants us to be with him eternally in his kingdom but he wants us also to live a good clean life now and by living that good clean life we can serve him better but also Al it's a blessing it's part of God's grace to us if we follow these Commandments he's not trying to put us in a box you know so we can't do anything he's telling us to stay away from these things because they are destructive to us they are destructive to our families we will not live a good life our quality of life uh will not be what it can be we're getting sucked into all of these dis different lustful things all of these material things that we
see and then we're not going to read all of those um you know Proverbs 6:25 do not desire her beauty he's talking about strange women here right do not desire her beauty in your heart and do not let her capture you with her
eyelashes I should have read this before my first date with Lee it's too late though it's all right
um and then from Timothy so flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness Faith love and peace along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart so there's a purity of heart as opposed to lustfulness which is dirty filthy we're letting our flesh get the best of us wanting more and more and more never satisfied with the things that God has given us I mean so um some some things to keep in mind so that's lust what do we got for
time definitely not going to make it that's all right all right so
gluttony uh obesity is an epidemic in this country in in a lot of parts of the world 30 to 40% of uh Americans are obese that's not overweight but obese um in gluttony is very uh very simply an overindulgence or an over consummation of anything to the point of waste we think about gluttony first we think about food eating uh massive amounts of food uh but there's there's other things too there's Spirit there's a spiritual aspect of it but also kind of a moral or ethical aspect of it um while the rich are oing the poor eat nothing Paul talks about that in First Corinthians right when he's uh he's talking about coming together for the memorial Serv service of of Christ um he says that the you know the the rich are overeating and they're drunk while they're poor they they eat nothing have you not homes to eat and drink in Paul ask um and so you know Glutton they're lusting after food primarily but also drink I think drunkenness can be put in into this category it's an
overindulgence uh being drunk we know that uh you know drunkards will not inherit the kingdom of God uhul Paul tells us a couple couple times so um again words words of advice words of wisdom from our father um again the moral and ethical concern is uh the poor are being overlooked during that time you know during you know the an you know in the ancient world in Rome you know the poor were overlooked no one cared for them they you know so there was a disparaging of um you know the the very rich income uh you know disparity between someone that is very rich and someone that is poor and so gluttony kind of has to do with all of those things um greed you know gluttony is you know greedy lust you lusting after food so I think we can see brothers and sisters how how thing these things all connect together just something for today a little little tidbit of information kind of put things in perspective the United States waste 60 million ion tons of food that is$
218 billion dollars of waste 25% of the landfills in America are from food waste so you know we really have uh you know the opposite problem of uh you know we we have almost too much food we we're overindulgent we you know we can go to McDonald's and get 3,000 calories
easy right for what 10 bucks you know you super siize it who knows so cheap calories in the United States cheap calories in other parts of the world um and it's very easily accessible we go to the supermarket you can buy whatever you want within your financial means McDonald's Burger King Wendy's think about a
chickfila um yeah
gluttony uh sometimes we don't think about that but uh yeah being overindulgence over over consuming again this is a self-discipline thing you know we we're kind of hardwire right in our nature is to consume as much as possible you know to fill up you know particularly um you know people genetically who have been through famines um you I'll just use the you know Irish people and Scottish people uh because of that pressure put upon them a lot of a lot of times the people well really the the people that survived were able to overcome the fam because they were able to retain you know any of the you know the extra fat that they had on their body some a lot of them didn't you know um and so that may be a reason why too In some cultures that uh you just pack on weight really quick because there's been so much famine in the in the past you know it's almost like hard wide into the DNA that you know if there's extra food you got to you got to pile up you don't know when your next meal is coming from and that certainly was true hundreds and hundreds of years ago now it's not true and so we're you know we're uh we're kind of like Joseph where he's you know he put all the extra corn and whatnot the wheed into silos you know we do we do the same thing with our bodies and we have to be uh you know that that's unhealthy eating too much food drinking too much alcohol is unhealthy you're not going to have a quality of life um if you do these things on a regular basis ovat
overindulge um and a lot of times it's part of our culture overindulging as well so it's something to keep in
mind now this is pretty interesting like medieval church leaders of Thomas aquinus he was a you know a great writer on Christian apologies and whatnot uh he kind of some he he kind of did a deep dive on gluttony which I think is pretty pretty inter interesting um it could also include he says obsessive anticipation of meals like being obsessed meals like oh can't wait for dinner which I have I have said several times uh overindulgence and Delicacies and costly Foods okay that's interesting and he also kind of listed five forms of gluttony now again this is not found in scripture but I just found it interesting that um you know he he has five forms of different types of gluttony eating too expensively you're spending too much on food like the top-notch Wine and Food eating too daintily huh
interesting uh eating too much eating too soon eating too eagerly you know if we're telling story I'm G tell I'll tell a funny story about well it's a funny story to me anyways years and years ago when I was at I was a graduate student at Bridgewater State and I was a grad assistant so I work with the professors and you know taught a few classes um for them but we we went out to the 99 Restaurant I don't know it was like at the end of the semester or whatever and you know I was trying to make a good impression on these people I was working with them
um and so you know I know this is a shock to you but I was hungry at the time was like lunchtime was like one o'clock I don't think I had eaten breakfast or anything like that so I was I was hungry and I know my way around food as many of you know I'm not a stranger to it so anyways we go to we go to the 99 and there's about eight or nine of us sitting at this big table and we're talking and everyone's having this small talk and whatever and so our food eventually comes and people are eating normally and they're having conversations they're putting their Fork down they're looking at people they're taking a drink they're eating in a very normal
fashion however I was not eating in a normal fashion in fact I was eating too eagerly because I was hungry and people were like a third of the way through their lunch and I was completely done there wasn't anything on my flate so all of these you know professors like uh you know the head of the history Department was there they're just looking at me like
uh got a little problem what the food though you so I I think about that you know about you know eating too quickly and that's something that I do I I eat too quickly and I think it may go back to just the environment you know that I grew up with you got to eat the food it's gone you know when my mother would come with all the food after shopping we'd go and we'd take all of the food that we'd like sometimes someone would hide food uh you know there's a lot of high Jinks and shenanigans with the food in the house so it's not my fault so anyways um and then just with this page right here the gout um the gout was considered it's still around today a rich man's disease a buildup of uric acid um you know some of the food that the medieval uh wealthy would eat would be um you know the like the the insides like the awful of uh of animals kidneys um you know heart liver that type of thing that has a lot of uric acid in it and so um people would get the gout you know very painful and we you know people in the Middle Ages felt that the gout was God's punishment for gluttony you know and that you know it's it's interesting even like Bishops even you know very high up obviously in the Catholic Church they would get the gout as well and so you know kind of the peasants would make fun of these rich men who couldn't walk because it was so debilitating because they had eaten so much food and obviously we all know today you know kind of the negative effects of obesity it just affects everything um in our lives and so again I want to reiterate this because I think it's important God is important God is interested and concerned about our internal our Eternal salvation but he also cares about our welfare now and that's why he doesn't want these types of behaviors in in our lives maybe have a time all right so let's let's take a look at um you know just some and I'm not going to read all of these uh but from Proverbs 23 be not among drunkards or among gluttonous Eaters of meat for the drunkard and the Glutton will come to poverty and Slumber will clothe them with Rags right we spending all our time on eating and drinking certainly during that time absolutely come to Poverty put a knife to your throat if you are given to appetite I think the context of that verse brothers and sisters was uh kind of like my situation uh you you know Solomon has tell us when you go to like the king or the or a Rich Banquet right put a knife to your throat don't eat so much be in control of yourself
um verse uh and then Proverbs 25 you have found honey eat only enough for you lest you have your fill of it and vomit it again self-control not overindulging in things and then lastly coron uh Corinthians so whether you eat or drink or whatever you do do all to the glory of God and that's something I thought about you know when we give thanks uh you know we give thanks to God for the food that we have and then in the process of that we overindulge we're
gluttonous you know it's it's an interesting thing we're thankful for the food to God but then we overindulge in the food that God has uh has given us and so you know are we glorifying God in that situation you know it kind of it's It's a sensitive top topic for sure because I think you know a lot of us struggle with our weight a lot of us overindulge food is
good you know I I love food um but you know I have to work on my self-control because God wants what's best for me and that's the way we have to look at it these restrictions on behavior isn't because God hates us he loves us he's keeping us from harm and evil and that's something obviously that that's in the um in the Lord's in the Lord's Prayer you know to keep us from tempt from Temptation Deliver Us from
Evil and then you know you can look at this in your own time um but Deuteronomy 21 and 20 about the stubborn son he's rebellious won't listen to us he's a glunt glutton and a drunker that those two things again are mentioned um and and actually the punishment for this was death you know if you were rebellious and stubborn
some okay uh what do we got time here 807 all right greed an insatiable desire for material gain be it food money land animate objects inan objects possessions social
value status or power an insatiable desire there's that word again an uncontrolled desire
again we're out of control when we when we exhibit these types of sins when we're
greedy um greed is something that has been identified down through history as something that creates problems within the society if you have one individual wanting all of the Power all of the control all of the food the possessions the money right this is one of the things that's actually happening Jason mentioned um you know into the um inadequacies in the world today where you have a country like the United States tremendous amount of food to the to the point where we're wasting 25% of it to places in Africa because of famine and also because of breed brothers and sisters because of the leaders in these different African countries who are keeping the food and the money and the power to themselves and not sharing it with the people so again we see an intersection between these we see a connection between these sins how that one can kind of snowball and all of them come together um and this is a great quote from uh Christian writer Henry Edward Manning he greed plunges a man deep into the mire of this world so that he makes it to be his God that's pretty profound right greed insatiable desire for materials you're getting in the mire of this world you doing business with this world um and it becomes all you you become insatiable for the things of this world and It ultimately becomes your God it becomes your idol it's what you serve it's what you love what it's what you give yourself to and it is
emptiness emptiness Solomon tells us whosoever loves money never has enough whosoever loves wealth will never be satisfied with their income this too is meaningless Hebrews keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have because God has said never will I leave you never will I forsake you do you remember that brothers and sisters it's that part of our mind it's part of our thought process right we oftentimes we think we have to do it oh I got a you know more money I got I got bills right we we can we can be stressed out by those things and you know it's true you know we we we go through financial difficulties sometimes but we should never forget that God loves us he cares for us he will never leave us he will never forsake us and then from Luke watch out be on your God against all kinds of greed life does not consist in abundance of possessions right and he goes on I think he tells the tells the parable of the of the rich man right he builds bigger and bigger barns um and he says look at all the stuff that look at what I have done and that day he died and he couldn't bring it with him brothers and sisters it was left and then no man can serve two masters so on and so forth so again I don't want to I don't want to get uh spend too much time on these but these are you know you can go through scripture and find um you know support for this idea of greed not to have it in our lives not to be a greedy
person all
right sloth sloth is uh means without care it refers to a particular jumble of Notions dating from Antiquity and it includes mental spiritual and physical states of sloth it's a lack of attention to things in our lives dismissing our
responsibilities have we been slothful in our lives in these things brothers and sisters I know I have
um you know dismissing our responsibilities not paying the proper attention to to the important things in our lives and I think that's why uh sadness is kind of brought brought in there because of our sadness we don't care
anymore we have you know we can get like that brothers and sisters we go through it's like we're beaten down you know Solomon says oppression makes a wise man
mad and um you know we I just don't how many people have just kind of thrown up their hands right I just don't care anymore it's crazy it's too
much
um I think that happens in our lives God knows it happens in our lives he sees it um but we we should all we should never dismiss our responsibilities we should never lose hope I think the lack of Hope and sloth without care we just we've lost it and that's just a very very difficult place to be brothers and sisters that we don't think we don't care about the things of God what caused us to be put into that state of mind you know
depression uh
loss you know can all cause just really profound profound grief and
sadness and you know grief grief is in otion that that is talked about in scripture all the time and it's you know it's not negative we we're grieving we're sad about something but I think what God is trying to tell us is we can't be sad and
hopeless we should never lose hope in the things of God they should always always be important to us um lack of attention to things in our lives it can be spirit ual things can be um you know physical things that we need to get
done uh you know a physical health that's important that's very important what are we doing to for our physical and mental health what's our you know what's our prayer life like uh do we have a daily uh contact with the word of God are we thinking about the things of God what is our home life like if someone were to come into our home or Jesus would to come into our home would he be like oh yeah this is I can I can definitely see you know the good stuff going in here it's kind of like a mini Kingdom of God in here wow or you know the reality of the situation we we've got some things to work on right um so yeah sloth and then um just again we're not going to read all of these but the parable of the talents right the one guy who just like me I don't have time for this I really care for I'm just going to Bury Bury it in the sand right
um let's see from Proverbs 13 lazy people want much but get
little through sloth the roof sinks in and through
uh in what is that word indolence the house leaks thank you sister Le despite the desires the L the lazy will come to ruin for their hands refuse to work
um so again you know uh we can't be lazy people we can't be slothful people we have to be diligent uh you know I think Paul says when he's talking about Windows a man that presides not for his house is worse than a you know an Infidel he has denied the faith Paul says you know that idea of providing for other people not being slothful in the responsibilities that God has given us Ecclesia responsibilities family responsibilities individual work responsibilities as well okay uh what do we got all right I'm going to I'm going to go through wrath and pride very quickly and I'm going to open it up okay I mean we could do we could do a whole class on each one of these um uncontrolled feelings of anger rage and even hatred wrath often reveals itself in the wish to seek
Vengeance and so the act of anger um becomes the sin of Wrath when it is direct directed against an innocent person when it is unly strong or longlasting or when it Desir excessive punishment so brother Paul uh milans he he gave the exitation last week he talked about you know being in his car and having the right frame of mind um that can be you know that can be difficult for for some people you know someone cuts you off or does something moronic you know you can go from zero to 100 very quickly and now you're you're wrathful you're seeking Vengeance on
somebody unduly unduly
strong or longlasting
right that's you know uh like you know when someone does something you know first of all you know we we have to work on I'm talking to myself now we have to work on being patient and kind and calm at all times even when people do crazy things when we're driving right we can't go we can't be wrathful you know it's like you know we're coming home from meeting or going to meeting you know we got about a 50 55 um you know minute
drive and you know it's just like why why am I getting so upset going to meeting to remember the sacrifice of Christ and I'm getting all upset because someone's going five miles below the speed limit you know it doesn't make any sense it's not a great frame of mind I know when I'm in a frame of mind like that like very very aggressive and kind of hopped up and not patient and not kind uh you know wrath can be it can be so deadly for ourselves you know they've done they've done like kind of research on this and people that are all that have anger all the time it affects them mentally but also physically they die in early age uh the stress of that the body you know what happens to the body in a state of rage right you're out of control once again these seven deadly sins what's the common denominator we're out of
control we're not in control of
ourselves
um so yeah and then obviously uh some just again dearly beloved avenge not yourselves but rather give Place unto wrath for it is written vengeance is mine I will repay sayeth the Lord James 1 straight to the point brothers and sisters for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God if you have ever been in a state of
Wrath the righteousness of God is a thousand miles away when you are in that state of mind it works not the righteousness of God we're not glorifying God when we're in a state of wrath and a lot of times when we get into a state of Wrath brothers and sisters we can't be reasoned with you know where it's almost like we're we're insane for a short period of time we can't be
counseled you just we're we're out of control we can't we can't be in a situation like that our brother or sister in Christ should not be known for their wrath for their aggression right that's we we don't we don't want to be known for those things right let your moderation be known to all men Paul says right our
self-control all right
Envy insatiable desire like greed and lust um it can be described as a sad or resentful Covetous um Behavior towards somebody it becomes vain glory and sever a man from his his neighbor if we're envious of our neighbor right Ten Commandments we're not to covet the things of our neighbor his wife or any of his possessions we're if we're always envious or jealous of other people again brothers and sisters what an awful way to go through life right again insatiable desire we're out of control again we we become obsessed with somebody we're envious of that person right again here you know you can look these up at your own Leisure but like just from first Peter 2 wherefore laying aside all malice and all guile and hypocrisies and envyings and all evil speaking put those away Galatians let us not be desirous of vain Glory provoking one another envying another uh envying one another opposite of envying
right lifting each other up being happy the success of other
people all right now lastly um Pride this is the worst this is the one where all they all come from Pride
uberus
futility it is considered the original and worst of the seven deadly sins on almost every list the most destructive pride is the opposite of
humility and then um you know be the same mind one toward another mind not high things but condescend to Men of low estate be not wise in your own conceits here's a direct room from God Proverbs 8 the fear of the Lord is to hate evil pride and arrogancy in the evil way and the froed mouth God says I do hate he despises those things Proverbs 26 is great do you see a man wise in his own conceit I'm the modest guy in the room there is no more hope of a fool than of him and then we'll end with proverb 16 everyone that is proud in heart is an Abomination to the Lord though hand join in hand he shall not be unpunished
